BCCI Construction Company recently completed core and shell renovations and tenant improvements for Skype’s new North America headquarters located at the Stanford Research Park. The new facility consolidated two Bay Area locations into one cohesive office space.
The first phase, executed six weeks prior to the completion of construction drawings, included demolition and re-definition of tenant spaces. This allowed BCCI to conduct detailed site surveys to identify unforeseen conditions and avoid potential design conflicts before construction commenced. Phase Two entailed the two-floor build-back to create a relaxed, open work environment. With adaptive meeting spaces and casual lounge areas for employee interaction distributed on both floors and free-standing “pods” offering private phone booths and conference rooms equipped with advanced AV technology, the new improvements provide an ideal balance for employee collaboration and concentration. On the lower level, an all-hands meeting/café space and game room was constructed for large company gatherings. Additional project scope included new infrastructure for the installation of a new elevator in the building lobby.
The result is a distinctive workplace, both functional and creative, that is uniquely Skype. As a reflection of it’s commitment to the environment, BCCI provided Skype with LEED consulting and documentation services. The project was awarded LEED CI Silver certification by the USGBC and complied with the City of Palo Alto Green Building Ordinance.
“From [BCCI’s] first presentation to their first draft of the budget, they were on point, proving their expertise of the industry and providing detailed navigation throughout the construction process….As in any construction project, there were challenges, but BCCI always seemed prepared, even prescient with a remediation plan. And they never shied away from fully disclosing the options and an estimate for overcoming any challenge. The BCCI team was amazing to work with day-to-day, maintaining the utmost professional demeanor and constantly exhibiting their dedication to the Skype project’s success.”
